What to Look For When Choosing a Chiropractor
If you are thinking of seeing a chiropractor for treatment, make sure you choose wisely. There are several things to look for when you are searching to ensure you have a safe, comfortable and pleasant experience.
· Credentials – Chiropractors have a DC after their name to indicate “Doctor of Chiropractic” Make sure that they are licensed to practice in your particular state and that they attended an accredited chiropractic college.
· Specialization – like medical doctors, chiropractors can specialize in many different areas such as neurology, orthopedics or sports injuries. Depending on the treatment you need, you may not be looking for a specialist.
· Hours of Operation – are they open when you need them to be? Do they have evening hours at least one night a week?
· Experience – did they just get their license or do they have years of experience? How much experience do they have performing the procedures that you are interested in having done?
· Personality – does the chiropractor have a pleasant personality? Was he/she willing to answer all of your questions? Are you comfortable around this person?
· Office Staff – are they pleasant and have a good telephone manner?
· Office location – is the office located at a location that is convenient for you?
· How did you find them – are they a referral from your medical doctor, from a friend or someone you found in the yellow pages?
· Cost – how much are they going to charge you, and is the cost covered by your insurance company?
· Continuing education – chiropractors are required to take courses on a yearly basis to stay up to date. Make sure your prospective chiropractor has been doing this.
